House approves measure to make Washington DC a state

More than 700,000 people live in D.C. — so why don’t they have real representation in Congress? 

In US news and current events today, the debate over Washington, DC statehood continues as Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cory Booker, Gerry Connoly, and other members of Congress are fighting to for Washington D.C. statehood. Despite its large population, larger than several states with full representation, we haven't seen a Washington D.C. state for the simple reason that it would add two Senators and Representatives to a largely Black and Brown populace, as AOC, Mayor Bowser, and many others have pointed out. Senate obstructionists like Mitch McConnell and Tom Cotton dance around the issue, but the real goal here is to deny a largely Black population the right to have a say in the way the country is run. No taxation without representation was one of the founding cries of the American experiment, yet it still seems to be going on to this very day.
